***Hint****The reason I'm having you finish and embellish each block is because this is not your typical block of the month quilt project. We are actually making a "pocket quilt." Each block you are making is an actual pocket. That's why I want you to embellish and "art up" each one. However, if you prefer to do a traditional quilt, then that is fine too. Isn't creative freedom wonderful! :)
You will still have to wait until the end of the year to see the finished piece, but at least you have a hint.
These basic instructions will be the same every month. The floss and the pattern will change. The links for all the patterns will remain on this page all year so you can get them whenever you have time. As always, please email me if you need any help or have questions!
**Cut your stitching fabric (I use linen) 8 1/2" x 8 1/2". Trace the pattern lightly using a light box or window and a brown Pigma pen. Fuse some fusible fleece to the back of the design. Stitch the design with 3 strands of embroidery floss. I love Valdani! Iron the piece when you are done stitching. Cut a piece of fabric 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" for the back. I'm using Osnaburg and will have it available on my site. With right sides together stitch these squares together with 1/4" seam leaving an opening for turning. Snip corners and turn right side out. Press. Now top stitch around the entire piece about 1/8". Embellish your block with buttons, beads, lace, ribbon or whatever you desire. "Art it up!"
